Early Years
Eskimo Joe formed around 1997 inside Fremantle, Western Australia. Kavyen (Kav) Temperly in bass/vocals, Joel Quatermain in drums & Stuart MacLeod in guitar formed the band to compete in the Australian National Campus Band Competition. Despite the fact that a number 1 heat was their number 1 gig swimming together, it won a competition by having prizes of a slot on the Livid Festival and the session around the recording studio.
inside that session in April 1998, it produced a Sweater EP whose title track "Sweater" received enough of airplay inside Triple J consequent in it featuring in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 1998. a subsequent self-titled EP freed around 1999 received airplay by owning the songs "Ruby Wednesday" & "Turn Up Your Stereo" as well making a Triple J Hottest 100 of that season. A band developed its reputation by touring including a Homebake Festival.
Album releases
Modular Records on the Festival Mushroom Records label signed the band around 1999. A band entered a studios by having producer Ben Buller who had worked by using Ben Lee, Pulp and Suede. A "Girl" album manufactured a top Forty of the Australian album stock & index charts in release and went gold by using tracks such as "Planet Earth" & "who Sold Her Out" getting airplay in Triple J. Additionally, a few of the band's tracks featured on the TV indicate The Secret Life Of Us.
Paul Keenan joined a band in drums by using Joel Quartermain becoming another guitar player. It recorded a The Song Occurs as City album by using Paul McKercher and Nick Launay on production. Kav Temperley said on the Festival Mushroom internet site that Fremantle is theme of the record. "The whole album is really about me, my friends, the people I love and Fremantle. It’s the stories that go on between us. It’s similar to the people in every place all over the world. For me, that’s what I’m writing about. I’m definitely not writing about New York. I’m writing about Fremantle."
A debut lone "From The Sea" processed it to the top Forty of the Australian singles stock and index charts when of March 29 & has been number one on the Triple J Net L between March and Can. The album A Song Occurs as City debuted in the ARIA Australian top L album chart at total Deuce on May 24, 2004. A track "Smoke" has been freed as a 2nd individual & has as well reached a top Quintet inside the Net Fifty in Will 2004. A third individual "Older Than You" became their 2nd top Fifty Australian hit when performing at a ARIA awards inside October.
Around September 2005 a DVD was freed by having all the film clips from either the foremost both albums, the feature length documentary film, a collection of survive performances, & a select few uncommon tracks, including the good deal loved Sweater.
